| Q. Can I deposit my Tax payment of Excise and Service Tax with Allahabad Bank?
Ans. Yes, Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC) has authorised 183 Branches (http://www.allahabadbank.in/cbec.xls) of our Bank to collect physical collection of Service Tax and Excise.
Q. In which Branch I can Deposit Service Tax and Excise Duties?
Ans. Physical Challans can be deposited for Service Tax and Excise duties at our CBEC authorised branches (http://www.allahabadbank.in/cbec.xls) either by Cash or Transfer or Clearing Mode can be used to of the Bank.
Further, Service Tax and Excise Duties can also be deposited by e-Payment. At present, CBEC e-Payment Facilities are available in all CBS Branches. (http://www.allahabadbank.in/cbs-branches.xls )
Q. What type of Challan should I use to deposit Service Tax and Excise Duties?
Ans. From 1st April, 2007 CBEC has made mandatory to use challan no GAR-7 for payment of Excise and Service Tax.
Q. What is the procedure for payment of Service tax/Excise at banks?
Ans. You can pay your indirect taxes in cash/cheque/Transfer at any of our designated branch along with duly filled in Challans. The designated branch will accept your cash/cheque/Transfer and will immediately stamp the counterfoil of the challan with a rubber stamp containing the CIN.
If however, you are paying taxes by cheque/draft at a bank branch other than where you have a bank account, the collecting branch will accept your cheque/draft and issue you a paper token in acknowledgement. When you present this token after encashment of the cheque/draft, the branch will hand over the acknowledgement counterfoil duly stamped with the CIN.
Q. Where can one obtain these Challans?
Ans. Soft copies of these challans are available at NSDL (www.nsdl.co.in) and Central Board of Excise and Customs website (www.cbec.gov.in ). Challans are also available with private vendors.
Q. What is Challan Identification Number (CIN) and what is its relevance?
Ans. Challan Identification Number (CIN) comprises of following :
- Seven digit BSR code of the bank branch where tax is deposited (7 digit)
- Date of Deposit/Challan Tender Date (DD/MM/YYYY) of tax
- Serial Number of Challan (5 digit)
CIN is stamped on the acknowledgement receipt to uniquely identify the tax payment. CIN has to be quoted in the return of income as a proof of payment. CIN is also to be quoted in any further enquiry. Therefore, you must ensure that CIN (comprising the above three parts) is stamped on the Challan
by the bank.
Q. Can I pay my Excise and Service taxes Online?
Ans. Yes. This service is available to all customers of CBS Branches having Internet Banking facility of the Allahabad Bank.
